Follow our step by step guide to sewing I AM Cassiopée, the beautiful dress from the collection I AM A STAR. You will find the written explication first and then below we have added the illustration or a video to explain the step. The videos are in French but can be understood even if you don’t speak the language.
CUTTING THE FABRIC:
Cut the fabric following the cutting plan.
Make notches as shown on the pattern and also on fabric folds: center front and back on the skirt, front and back on the bodice and on facings.
SEWING THE BODICE:
Sewing the sleeves, front & back of the bodice:
Overlock the bottom of the sleeves. Place a sleeve and the front of the bodice right sides together and pin in place. Sew at 3/8″ and overlock.
Iron the seam downwards. Sew the other sleeve to the front following the same instructions. Repeat those steps for assembling the sleeves to the back of the bodice.
SEWING THE SKIRT – Video:
Sewing the facings at the shoulder:
Overlock the facings at the shoulders and along the longest curve of the neckline. Place the front and the back facings right sides together at the shoulder. Pin in place and sew at 3/8″. Iron the seam open. (1)
Sewing the neckline:
Place the facing and the garment’s necklines right sides together. Make the centres match up as well as the shoulders. Pin in place and stitch at 3/8’’. (2)
Notch the curve, turn right side out and iron to maintain the facing inside the garment. Maintain the facing and the seam allowances together by topstitching 2mm from the first stitch. (3)

SEWING THE SKIRT – video:
Sew a row of easing stitches at the top of both the front skirt and the back skirt.Place the front skirt and the front bodice right sides together. Pin at both extremities and at the center. Pull the gather thread in order to get the same value on the skirt than on the bodice. Even out the gathers and pin in place.
Sew at 3/8″ and overlock. Repeat for the back.
Please note that step 8 and 9 have been mixed up in the video. You will need to first sew at 3/8″ and overlock it.
SEWING THE SIDES:
Place the front and the back right sides together, match up the underarm seams and pin the side seam. Sew at 3/8″. Overlock.
FINISHING – Video:
At the bottom of the skirt, fold 3/8″ and 1 1/2″ and iron to prepare the hem. Pin in place and topstitch all around.
At the bottom of the sleeve, fold 2″ towards the inside and iron. Fold again all the layers of the bottom of the sleeve at 3/4″ towards the right side. Sew all around at 3/16″ from the fold.
